Richard brings a wide range of experience to his work with individuals, couples, families and groups. Prior to establishing his professional practice he was employed as a clinical social worker at the Royal Ottawa Hospital where he occupied several positions in the adult and youth programs. This included his work as a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team working with at risk youth experiencing emotional/behavioral and learning difficulties.
Richard's private practice focuses on clinical work with adults, children and adolescents. His areas of particular interest include anxiety, depression, and attention deficit disorders, as well as Social Skills Groups and couples counselling. His practice is based on his early training in Adlerian techniques as well as his ongoing use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
In addition to his clinical work, Richard has consulted to the Ottawa Police Department, the Ottawa Fire Department, various boards of education and the Children's Aid Society of Ottawa-Carleton. Richard has lectured extensively on a variety of topics including anger management, bullying, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, adolescent difficulties, marital communication and family counselling. He continues to provide consultation services to private schools and summer camps in the Ottawa area.
He is the co-founder of CH.A.D.D. Canada (Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Disorders) and serves on the Professional Advisory Board at both a local and national level. He has been a contributor to the Ottawa Citizen addressing child and adolescent issues.
